Happy 125th Birthday J.R.R. Tolkien!
“There is still some good in the world, and it is worth fighting for.” -J.R.R. Tolkien, The Two Towers
To celebrate the 125th birthday of this famous author, I went to see An Unexpected Journey. Unless you live under a rock with some mountain goblins then you will know this is the first in the trifecta of the Hobbit movies. I read the book in middle school and then again in college, I didn’t remember most of it and am not sure how accurate it is but if you like pensive dwarven kings, fretful hobbits, and quite possibly the most adorable and yet horrifying gollumses then this is the movie for you. Well you should also like a fair amount of battle scenes because about 2 hours and 45 minutes of the 2 hour and 46 minute long movie has someone dying, nearly dying, killing, or nearly killing someone or something else.
“The wide world is all about you; you can fence your self in, but you cannot forever fence it out.” -J.R.R. Tolkien
