Happy Ice Cream Sandwich Day!
Today was an exciting day. It also ended with an ice cream sandwich so it was wonderful all around. Catherine and I drove to Wyoming via Denver today. We started early in the morning and made it to Truckhenge in Topeka, Kansas right when they were to open. They were not punctual and I didn’t think we had enough time to engage in breaking and entering so we left the key next to lock at the gate and traveled west-ward. We made another stop at the World’s Largest Easel in Goodland, Kansas. We also stopped at the “Second Friendliest Yarn Store In The Universe” in Salina. Honestly they were the first friendliest yarn store I’ve ever been in. We did not make a stop at the Wonder Tower because it seemed to be closed. If you are looking for a good time then you should look at Roadside America’s website for ideas. They have never steered me wrong! My point I think is proved that The Precious Moments Cathedral is their sight of the week on their website this week! Pure Tourist Gold! So driving and driving and driving took us to Denver.
While in Denver we stopped to eat dinner with a good friend, Sabrina, and her family. As always, it was delightful to see her and all of her projects. She is creative and crafty so always has something wonderful in the works. We also got to see some of Jamie’s photos that he had printed, they were beautiful.
After that we met another good friend, Mariah, for some dessert at D Bar Desserts. Catherine and I have been wanting to go there since she started her Master’s program last year simply because the owner is Keegan Gerhard from the Food Network Challenge series. Luckily they had an ice cream-ish sandwich dessert. It is described as follows:
Cherry Waffle Sammie:
rock sugar waffle ∙vanilla i.c. ∙ 3 cherry compote ∙ amaretto chantilly ∙ candied almonds ∙ cherry coulis
We also sampled the Strawberry Fields Forever:
seared basil pound cake∙ strawberries² ∙ buttermilk panna cotta ∙ strawberry sorbet ∙lace tuile ∙micro greens
The lace tuile was fun to say and fun to eat. I was wearing pajamas by this time and probably was a little low brow for this establishment. Come on people…a BASIL POUND CAKE! That’ deserves to be made fun of a little bit. It was great fun but anywhere with great friends is usually great fun! All in all one of the best travel days of this summer! (We didn’t even run out of gas on this fine day!)
