National Clean Hands Week

Feliz National Clean Hands Week

I try to teach my kids how to wash their hands in the beginning of every year. There is no better way to use this then Glo-Germ. It’s basically florescent oil that they wash off and then see where the spots they missed are. It’s so good to show them what bacteria hide. It makes me not want to touch them or anything in my room for a while but overall it’s a good lesson.

This is what they usually look like, little germs hiding in fingernail beds and between fingers.

The other thing I love doing is writing on my hand in florescent marker before hand and telling the kids I’m magical. Yellow is very good because you can’t really see it when it’s in daylight but it glows very brightly under a blacklight.

Like this one from How Stuff Works.

So remember the CDC says that hand washing:

  • Reduces the number of people who get sick with diarrhea by 31%
  • Reduces diarrheal illness in people with weakened immune systems by 58%
  • Reduces respiratory illnesses, like colds, in the general population by 21%

And believe me the CDC doesn’t joke about serious stuff like hand washing.
